Frequently Asked Questions
Follow these operation and maintenance guidelines to maximise blade life and ensure safe working conditions:
Longevity tips:
- "Break in" new blades: Before first use, make a few shallow cuts on soft abrasive material (like old cinder blocks or sandstone) to expose the diamond grit and prevent initial skipping.
- Avoid forcing the blade: Let the machine's power and the blade's weight do the work. Excessive pressure causes overheating, wobble, and accelerated wear.
- "Sharpen" if glazed: If cutting speed drops and the surface looks smooth, cut through an abrasive block or old brick several times to re‑expose fresh diamonds.
- Check arbor size: This 14" blade typically comes with a 25.4mm (1") or 20mm bore and may include reduction rings. Before installation, confirm your machine's arbor size and use the correct washer to ensure a firm, concentric fit.
Safety precautions (critical):
- Always use the guard: A 14" blade has high speed and heavy inertia – the original machine guard must be installed and never removed.
- Wear full PPE: Including safety goggles, ear protection, dust mask, cut‑resistant gloves, and steel‑toe boots.
- Inspect before each use: Check for cracks, warping, or chips. Any damaged blade must be immediately discarded and replaced – never attempt to repair or reuse.
- Match RPM rating: Confirm your machine's no‑load speed does not exceed the maximum RPM marked on the blade (typically 6600 RPM or lower). Over‑speeding is extremely hazardous.
This 14‑inch (350mm) segmented diamond blade is engineered for heavy‑duty dry cutting. It performs best on rough concrete, reinforced concrete, asphalt, bricks, blocks, and coarse stone. Common applications include road construction, foundation trenching, large‑pipe installation, demolition, and heavy masonry work.
Unlike smaller blades (4½" or 7") which are typically used on hand‑held angle grinders, this 14" blade is designed for high‑powered cut‑off saws, table saws, or petrol/electric handheld cutters. Its larger diameter enables much deeper single‑pass cuts (up to 120mm or more), dramatically improving productivity on large‑scale jobs. The larger segmented gullets also allow rapid debris evacuation, handling the demands of continuous dry cutting.
